NORTH DEVON INDOOR LEAGUE TRIUMPH
28 March 2011

Nomansland End 32-Year Wait

Two-thirds of the way towards 'doing a Somerset', having come runners-up in the handicap cup and knock-out competition, Nomansland claimed some well earned silverware on 24th March with a critical win over Hele Bay in the final league game. The victory has placed us first in the table, above North Molton. What's more, this is the first time Nomansland have won the North Molton Indoor League in it's 32 year history.

This was not an easy game by any means, with Hele Bay being one of only two teams to have beaten us in a long season which started in October last year. Despite this being virtually a dead-rubber for them, they brought a strong side and played some high intensity cricket, with the spinners bowling especially well. Nomansland were indebted to an innings of 28 from Ben Franks, helping them to a round, but slightly disappointing, 100 (Hele Bay having chased down a larger total when we lost to them earlier in the year).

Despite some decent bowling from Franks, and Ed Mock, Hele Bay progressed to 42 without loss after 4 overs. Russell Hilton entered the attack in the fifth, which yielded 3 runs and 2 wickets. Hele Bay were not able to recover, and a run out in the last over ended the innings, 14 runs short.

This was definitely a much deserved title. The following players have been the main representatives for the club over the past 6 months: Ed Mock, Peter Randerson, Andrew Crossman, Ben Franks, Owen Lloyd, Russell Hilton, Matt Summerfield, Ryan Bowden and Peter Blight.
