WALLATOR CARTER FAMILY

Martha Wallator (born 6 March 1831) of the Cardington branch married John Carter (born 21 Jan 1827) a blacksmith from Enchmarsh on 31 March 1851 in Pontesbury Methodist Chapel. They had nine children including five sons who carried the Wallator Carter name: George, John, Charles, Richard, Andrew and Philip Wallator Carter. Some of them seem to have been involved in a coal trading business in the local area of Shropshire and Mid-Wales. George married Ada Pulsford in 1880. They had four children, including Tom Pulsford Wallator Carter who emigrated to New Zealand (see below). Richard had a son, Percy John Wallator Carter (b. 1893) and Andrew had a son Price Wallator Carter (b. 1899) who was a long time lecturer in Botany at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth.

[I am grateful to Stephen Williams for originally providing much of the above information].

There are a number of descendants of the above alive today who still bear the "Wallator Carter" name.  I believe they live in the USA and possibly still the UK and New Zealand.

Links to information about some of the above can be found on the External Links page.

NEW ZEALAND DESCENDANTS

As far as I am aware there are no people permanently living in New Zealand with the surname Wallator.  However, people with the name Wallator Carter are recorded as living there.  The Wallator Carter family originate from the marriage of John Carter and Martha Wallator from Shropshire, in the early 1800s (as described above - see the Cardington section on the Shropshire (UK) Families page for full details).

The following information is about the first Wallator Carter to live in New Zealand:

Tom Pulsford Wallator Carter (a descendant of the Cardington, Shropshire Wallator Carters) emigrated to New Zealand (via Canada) in the early 1900's and served at Gallipoli in 1915 as an ANZAC soldier (see the links page - although his name is misspelt on that website).  He married Enid Charlotte Scott and is recorded as living in Auckland, New Zealand until at least 1954. They had three daughters.
