The Work
I’ve been producing work from found wood since taking a studio at The Stables Studios in Cromarty, Ross-shire this was a departure from my training in Ceramics but the new start presented an opportunity to develop new ideas as I took on the new approach. It develops by gathering wood from coastal and inland beaches around the Inverness and Ross-shire area as the Cromarty Firth, Moray Firth and Loch Ness all yield a plentiful supply of material at different times of the year.
The development of the work since this beginning can easily been seen through the images you see where greater experience coupled with a conscious effort to expand technical skills naturally led to a more ambitious approach.
I try to develop my drawing along side the woodwork as I enjoy using charcoal whilst the change of medium can be valuable to realise sculptural work as well as satisfying the need to explore different ideas.
