Treasure
What qualifies as treasure?
Any metallic object,except a coin, that is at least 10 per cent by weight of metal is precious metal (ie. gold or silver), and is at least 300 years old when found. If the object is of prehistoric date, it will be treasure if any part of it contains precious metal.
Two or more metallic objects of prehistoric date that come from the same find.
All coins from the same find as long as they are over 300 years old when found. If they contain 10 per cent of gold or silver, ther must be at least 3 or more.
Any object whatever it is made of that has been found in the same place, or has been together with other items declared treasure.
Hoards that have been deliberately hidden (ie. coins,bronze age axe heads etc.).
What isn't treasure?
Single coins found on their own.
Objects from the foreshore which are wreck.
Objects whose owners can be traced.
