Medallion

This body of work alludes to the cross-cultural clashes found in the paintings that include the use of mother of pearl and to the “Escudos de Monjas” of the period of the Spanish vice regency of Latin America. The colours are taken from paintings of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. The visual language is of embellishment and decoration but might evade customary interpretations.

The level at which the paintings transact with religion, politics and sex will depend on the interests of the viewer.
