Ron Cornish
31.10.27 - 15.03.16
I regret to announce that Ron Cornish passed away on the 15th March 2016 at Watford Hospital. He was 89. Ron had suffered from ill health for a few years but still took a great interest in what was going on at the St. Albans Keyboard and Organ Club and in fact donated his EL900 Organ to the Club the previous year.
Since Ron passed away some of the original members of SAKOS have been reminiscing back to when the first members of the Club, or Society, as it was known then, started playing together at The Goat Public House.
Pete Judd, one of our members, has sent us the following memories of Ron whom he first met in 1979 when he joined the then St. Albans Hammond Organ Society.
"Many of us who had learnt a little about music during our lives were helped by Ron to obtain a greater understanding of it by learning more about such things as keys and harmony. He was also a great engineer and kept the Societies instruments in tip top condition. I shall always remember Ron when I hear the music from Shostakovich's "Gadfly". Ron's rendition of this was truly great. Ron was a great musical friend".
For more about Ron's life please go the the Club's Website to read his article entitled "Music in My Life".
If desired, donations in memory of Ron will go to the Stroke Associarion and may be sent to Phillips Funeral Services, 68 Alma Road, St. Albans, AL1 3BL.
