WINTER RACE SERIES 2008/2009
KINLOCH TRAIL RUN
A field of 20 runners turned out for the first of this year winter race series events, the 4 ¼ mile Kinloch Trail run. The heavy showers held off for the duration of the event allowing the competitors to enjoy the stunning views of Ben Sgritheal and down the Sound of Sleat that this route offers.
Scott Kennedy continued where he left off earlier in the year coming home a clear winner in 27:53. Phil Dewar was a very respectable second in 30:38 in what was his first competitive run after a lengthy injury lay off. James ‘Paddy’ Stephenson finished third, in 31:30, despite taking a fall that later resulted in him receiving 4 stitches in his left knee! Neil Roberts (33:04) and Neil Turner (33:54) took the remaining points places available in the Men’s Championship.
There was a good entry of seven women this year but, none of them could end Wilma MacRuary’s domination of the Women’s Championship. Wilma’s winning time of 35:57 was enough to see her finish 9th overall. Second lady was Linda Kennedy in 39:21. Fiona MacDonald who took an impressive 4 minutes off her time from last year that saw her finish a close third in 39:31. Janette Tasker (41:23) and Helen Webster (45:11) took the remaining points available.
The next race in this winter’s series is the Braes Road Run on 6 December 2008.
