Sat 15th Nov:  Kinloch Forest Trail Run (4 miles)
Meet at the Leitir Fura walks car park, Kinloch Forest (1 mile off the A851 Broadford to Armadale road)
Sat 6th Dec:  Braes Road Run (4 miles) Meet at Braes Village Hall
Sat 17th Jan:  Glenmore Road Run (Skye 10k) Meet at the Camanachd Club, Portree
Sat 14th Feb: Glen Brittle Forest Trail Run (10 miles) Meet at the Fairy Pools car park, Glen Brittle
Sat 14th Mar:  Sconser Road Run (6 miles) Meet at Sconser Golf Club

All welcome (over-16s only).  Unless stated, registration 11.30am, races start at 12 noon.  Unless stated, entry £3.00 (SLRC members £1.00)  Club membership £15 per year … why not join up on the day?

WEEKEND RUNS – WINTER 2008/2009

                                                                                                                  

·         All runs start at 10:30 am

·        Check club website’s message board for any car sharing offers, lifts, etc.

·        Most of the runs cross remote areas so make sure you bring appropriate kit.

                                                                                                                  

Saturday, 29 November 2008 – Braebost Hill Track

Route Description:   Out and back run on hill track across open moor then through a forestry plantation.   This is a good wee workout with good runable hills in both directions.

Distance:                      Approximately 6 miles

Terrain:                         Farm track and forest road.

Footwear Tips:           Trail shoes. (Road shoes OK if you don’t mind getting them dirty)

Start Point:                  Just past the entrance to Lyndale House on the A850 Portree to Dunvegan Road.

Parking:                        On section of old road opposite start point.  Take turning for Lyndale House.

Sunday, 28 December 2008 – Borreraig and Suisinish Loop

Route Description:   Mostly off road circuit over the hill from Strath Suardal to the cleared village of Borreraig, along the coast to Suisinish, along the track to Camus Mallaig then a final stretch on the road back to the start point.

Distance:                      Approximately 10 miles

Terrain:                         Mixed, hill paths, open hill, farm track and road.

Footwear Tips:           Trail shoes.

Start Point:                  Cill Chroisd Graveyard on the B8083 Broadford to Elgol road.

Parking:                        Plenty parking at the start point.


 

Saturday, 10 January 2009 – Sligachan Various Route Options

Route Description:   Decide when you get there.  Options include; Out and back run down Glen Sligachan (with the option of an ascent of Drum Hain), Out to the Beallach a Mhaim and back (with the option of adding on the Fairy Pools loop), or, Up Fionn Choire, over Meall Odhar and back on the Am Bhastier footpath.

Distance:                      As little or as much as you want.

Terrain:                         Mostly stoney hill footpaths, be prepared for wet feet!

Footwear Tips:           Trail or fell shoes.

Start Point:                  Sligachan Hotel.

Parking:                        At start point.

Sunday, 1 February 2009 – MacLeod’s Maidens

Route Description:   Out and back coastal run to the top of the cliffs overlooking MacLeod’s Maidens.  This is a tough, varied run with plenty ups and downs for a coastal run. 

Distance:                      Approximately 11 miles

Terrain:                         Mixed; farm track, forest road, hill footpaths, open hill and some bogs!

Footwear Tips:           Trail shoes or, fell shoes.

Start Point:                  Orbost Farm, near Dunvegan.

Parking:                        On section of old road opposite start point.  Take turning for Lyndale House.

Saturday, 28 February 2009 – Quiraing

Route Description:   Hill run circuit from the Loch Langaig carpark above Flodigarry to the top of Meall na Suiramach (above the Quiraing) down to the beallach where you turn back along the Quiraing footpath, through the Prison, pass under the Needle and back out by Loch Hasco and Loch Langaig to the start point.

Distance:                      Approximately 6 miles (with a 443 metre climb from the road to the top of Meall na Suiramach)

Terrain:                         Hill footpaths, open hill with boggy bits and a steep grassy descent to the bealach.

Footwear Tips:           Fell shoes.

Start Point:                  The carpark off the A855 at Dunans, just south of Flodiggary.  (Signpost to Loch Langaig.

Parking:                        At start point
