Dear all
On Friday 24th July I finished painting the four remaining green men, the matching dark green knotwork emanating from them and the centre of the labyrinth with its wild rose.
On Saturday 25th I painted the last areas of knotwork closest to the labyrinth representing the red and white roses. Only the background colours to the knotwork, green men and labyrinth are left to do. To finish the whole design and make prints in time to sell at Sidmouth FolkWeek Craft Village, Devon, UK, I have decided to fill in the background colours on computer.
On Monday 27th July I took the design into Dublin to the Copper House gallery / print studio where it was scanned. The plan was then to input the scan into my computer and colour-fill it using a photo-editing / graphics program. I could then take the finished computer image back in the following day for printing. Time was short as we were leaving for the UK very early on Wednesday morning!
Unfortunately, no one was available on Tuesday to print the image so the staff at the gallery very kindly suggested I finish the whole thing in-house on the Monday instead. Eventually, after a lot of scurrying about, hard work and trouble with slow computers, we managed to colour-fill the image and produce a print-ready version. I wanted 25 prints but, unfortunately, after only four the connection was lost between computer and printed and couldn't be reestablished! I was very pleased with the four prints - they looked stunning and it occured to me that I might be able to have the rest of the work printed and sent over to Sidmouth once the problem with the printing had been fixed. This was agreed...
Sunday evening (2nd August): sitting and typing in a cafe in Sidmouth, Devon... We have had three days on the craft village. One of the four prints stands on an easel mounted and cellophane wrapped for display on our stall. The remaining 21 prints are on their way having had to be sent standard post due to the size of the package. Hopefully they will turn up tomorrow - if not Tuesday. So the Rose Labyrinth made it in time. Thanks to everyone involved for their support and understanding.
If you happen to be reading this within reach of Sidmouth, Devon then come down to the craft village and visit our stall of original ceramics and Celtic art before the festival ends on August 7th.
