Design Commissions

Celtic art is ingenious. This makes it amazingly flexible and adaptable and means it can be taken into many different areas and disciplines of art-craft-design. Basically, I can create original designs (based on your interests and needs) for a whole range of situations and applications. Some examples are given below:

Web page images (including illuminated letters). These can also just be in outline for you to colour-fill.

Book illustration (inc. full page designs, illuminated capitals and more).

Designs for public or private buildings and places (for walls, floors, windows, etc. plus shop signs).

Jewellery design.

An emblem or logo (for an individual, family, group or company).

Personalised initials.

Stationery design.

A house name / number plaque.

Please note: I create the original design and not the finished item - unless it is a painting. Digitising (photographing / scanning) of the artwork is the responsibility of the client.

Normally, I do not copy existing designs - all are unique, one-off creations.

There may be exceptions so please contact me to discuss your projects.

In addition, I have developed some large-scale original designs suitable for building and architectural projects. These are envisioned laid into floors or onto walls. They could be indoor or outdoor. Please contact me if you want to find out more.

The Commissioning Process

First: We discuss your needs and ideas for the design and also how much it is likely to cost.

Second: If you are happy to go ahead I ask for a small non-refundable deposit (approximately 10% of the total cost). This 'seals the deal' and also covers me for any initial work I do in case there is a cancellation at a later date.

Third: production of a first draught of the design in pencil is sent to you via email.

Fourth: Adjustments are made to the design, if necessary, until you are happy with it.

Fifth: the full design is produced - normally as a finished painting on artists board outlined in artists pens (Indian ink) and painted in gouache (opaque watercolour).

Sixth: All outstanding payments are made before I send off the finished work. Please note: I do not frame work.

Further Notes

As a guide only: a fairly complex design finished as an A5 (half A4) full-colour artwork is going to cost around £150. Less intricate designs take less time so will obviously cost less. Also, good design can make something simple go a long way!

I only produce original hand-drawn / painted designs and do not copy existing work. The design process usually takes the longest amount of time. If I'm not happy with the quality of the work I will continue to strive and adapt to find something surprising and unique.

If, for any reason, I have to cancel, any deposit payed will, of course, be refunded in full.

This bit is particularly important: The copyright (©) for any commissioned work remains soley with me (the artist). Designs can only be used for the agreed purpose. No money or profit can be made by reproducing and selling any of my original designs or commissions unless this is explicitly agreed as part of the commissioning process.
