Knotworks - Knots work!

by Unknown - 16:04 on 19 August 2014

Found a brief entry in my diary that i had written about knots and how the amount of variation in patterns or types of knot increases dramatically with the basic number of strands being used - particularly from three strands to four. Sounds complex but...

Must dash... come back soon for more on this. Will try to include illustrations!

I'm back...

It's to do with the principle that small (and seemingly insignificant) changes (at threshold places and moments) can have far-reaching effects. So it is also to do with proportion - the relationship (ratio) between what is put in and what comes out. It also brings up the question of what effort is - how something forced often has a detrimental effect or limited result and how the spirit and quality of an action is vital to what actually happens or is created. We are interested here in creative acts; utilising natural forces and qualities and what we may call working with nature. From this comes discovery and a sense of relationship.

Let's pause here/there, go back and look at how some of these laws operate through the sphere of Celtic art and design. We can also show how art can be used to contact, explore and understand aspects of life. Surely any creative activity shares this capacity?

More soon...

We will also explore the effects of being distracted through too many branches of work, leading to delays in some areas...
