One Core Strategy Submission

We are urging everyone to make a submission to One Core Strategy consultation to insist that overhead power lines and pylons are removed as a requisite part of the plan.

It is very important that as many people as possible make this request. Please ask partners, family members, friends and neighbours to make a submission also.

It would be better if you could submit your own words.  However, we have provided an example that you may send or use as the basis of you own submission if you are short of time.

Subject: Remove Pylons from the Outer West

Dear Sir/Madam

I ask, in the strongest possible terms, that the pylons and overhead power lines that run through existing residential areas of the outer west of Newcastle are removed as a requisite of the One Core Strategy going forward.

I make this proposal on the following grounds;

  • It will provide some mitigation to local residents who will be disadvantaged by these plans.
  • It will improve aesthetics by removing multiple imposing and ugly 120ft structures that are not consistent with the look and feel of a residential environment.
  • Extensive groundwork will be required to provide water, sewerage, gas and domestic electricity.  Use this as an opportunity to move high voltage cables underground at the same time.
  • It will improve green space within the existing community, which is a goal of the One Core Strategy.  The current cable corridor will be one of the few greens spaces left under the plans.
  • It will help to offset the inevitable drop in existing property value that a development on the scale of Callerton Park will cause.
  • Early engagement with National Grid will help to avoid conflict with National Grid’s own infrastructure plans and minimise the overall disruption to residents.
  • Undergrounding/removal has taken place in conjunction with projects like this in other parts of the country in recent years.

Yours faithfully
