The Match

The Scotland vs. England International Expatriate Match is an annual football game held in Doha, Qatar.

The first match was reportedly held way back in 1954 in Dukhan. (See page - "Early Years")

The annual game between the "Auld Enemy" is usually scheduled to be held in either of the months of April or May - as it becomes too hot in Qatar to play football beyond then. There has been occassions when the game has been rescheduled to take place in the cooler autumn/winter months due to other events.

The event had for many many years been the only major football experience for interested expatriates, participants and spectators, living and working in Qatar. However, since the end of 2006 an International Expatriate Football League has sprung up - generating a lot more games. Now in it's third season (2008-9) the QIFL (Qatar International Football League) has now expanded to twelve (12) teams thus creating more games and a longer season for those participating teams. Nevertheless the annual Scotland vs. England International still takes pride of place on the expatriate football calender.
