Anne Hills

Anne writes: Having lived all of my life in this area I have been much influenced by its scenic beauty and its rich diversity of flora and fauna. My secondary years in Lockerbie and college years in Edinburgh were focused on sport. But as a teacher I was keen that my pupils appreciated art and participated in creative pastimes.

I eventually took up art in my 30s when I began several years of watercolour painting with John Crolla to whom I am greatly indebted for all his fine teaching.

Having retired early from teaching I went to Carlisle Art College and studied part of the foundation course. Realising that I had many blanks in my artistic repertoire I went back to Lockerbie Academy where I joined the Higher Art course, receiving an A pass.

I moved on to oil painting, being ably taught by Sam Mullen for two years. I now paint as a member of the Hightae Art Group. I work in a variety of mediums with most of my inspiration coming from the natural world.

I have rarely exhibited my works and thie Project Art Lockerbie venture was my idea, since it is difficult and expensive for artists beginning to showcase their work.
