DARTS EXHIBITION 2011

Darts professionals Tony O'Shea, Darryl Fitton and Gary Robson along with MC Peter Burns performed a fantastic darts exhibition to a packed house in the Royal Hotel in Stromness on Saturday 8th October 2011.  The atmosphere was electric from the off as the Lakeside stars performed their world famous walk ons.

Those lucky enough to be in attendance seen one of the greatest legs of darts ever played in the county. Former World Number 1 Tony O'Shea scored 180, 180, 125 and 180 and wired double 18 for a 13 dart 701 leg against Michael Bain. Tony finished the leg in 15 darts for an average of over 140! Tony also had 2 bull finishes.

Former World No 2 Darryl Fitton had 3 x 180s, wired a 170 outshot, finished 138, hit 2 x double ones to finish 4, hit double 8 on his knees and averaged over 109 in his Doubles games with Gary Robson. Darryl also finished 12 by hitting 2 x doubles threes with Craig Taylor's darts after Craig had just missed a 170 finish on the bull with Darryl's darts.

The only local success of the evening was when Dennis Watt of the Stromness Legion edged past Darryl Fitton by hitting double 15 after Darryl had just hit 2 x 140s on the trot.

Former World Darts Trophy champion Gary Robson and current World No 4 had 2 x 180s and amazed the crowd once again with his finishing. He just missed hitting 3 x double eights to finish 48 and finished 50 with straws !! Gary also hit 2 x double ones to finish 4 along with double top, 4, double top to finish 84 and double 5, 5, double 5 to finish 25.

The event was organised by members of the Stromness Legion mens and Ladies darts teams and thanks go to Keith Chalmers for assembling the stage set and to everyone who took part and helped out and the many businesses and individuals in the local community, whose tremendous support and generosity made the event such a great success.

A 12 hour darts Marathon had been held one month earlier on Sat 3rd September in the Stromness Legion and finished with a total points score on one board of  209,002 points. Between this, and the raffles and other fundraising events on the Marathon day and at the Darts Exhibition £1,000 was raised for the local charity of the Hamnavoe Carers with the Men in Black Darts Pros there to help present the cheque on Sunday 9th October to the Charity representatives.
