Orphir v Eday report
03 December 2014

Report from 25-10-14

Parish Cup

Sunday 25th October saw Orphir and Eday kick off their 2014 Parish Cup campaign at the Noust.  It was the first time the two sides had met and with most of Eday being non-league players, Orphir were not sure what to expect.

Orphir got off to a dream start by winning all 3 doubles.  Eday’s George Shearer found Orphir’s Kevin Critchlaw too good, as Kevin took another point for Orphir.  Ian Findlay had to play good darts, including a 180 to beat Neil Twatt.  The best game of the first half came from Francis Ballantyne and Eday’s Sandra Brumpton.  Sandra's brilliant scoring on the 19s earned Eday their first leg of the match, but Francis used his vast experience and dug deep to give Orphir another point.  Orphir’s Adam Savage, Neil Croy and Richie Ballantyne all won against Doreen Shearer, Norrie Harcus and Davie Shearer giving Orphir a half time lead of 9 - nil.

The second half saw both Captains changing the order of play and Orphir bringing in Robbie Hewison and Graham Ballantyne.  Doreen and Norrie found it hard against Orphir’s Neil and Kevin as they won Orphir’s tenth game and the match.  Much to the delight and roar of the Eday supporters, Eday’s Sandra and George gave the away team their first point after they beat Orphir’s Ritchie and Robbie.   Eday was on a roll as Davie and Neil played well beating Graham and Francis.  The score now 10 - 2, Eday were getting more vocal as the match moved to the singles.

Eday’s roll was halted as Orphir’s Adam, Ian, Francis, Neil, Ritchie and Graham won all 6 of the singles for a convincing 16-2 win.  Despite the score Eday played some good darts and pushed Orphir harder than the score suggests.

In good Parish Cup spirit the teams played the gallon.  Eday did well coming right down, before Adam Savage hit double 4 to win it.  The whole match was played in very good spirits and there was a brilliant atmosphere in the Noust.  Thanks to the Noust for the supper.
