March Singles League Report
21 April 2011

A late withdrawal from League 6 meant that there were 65 matches scheduled for the penultimate month of March of which 61 were played.

In League 1 it was very close at the top between the big guns of Robbie Stanger, Stevie Linklater and Ivan Leslie. Robbie beat Ivan 9-7, Stevie beat Robbie 9-8 and Ivan beat Stevie 9-7 so after they all beat the other two competitors Davy Cooper and Michael Moodie, the top three positions were decided on leg difference. After countback it was Robbie that came out top with Stevie in second place. At the bottom Michael beat Davy 9-8 but is still relegated down a League for the first time.

In League 2 Bruce Moar won all his games convincingly to return to the top league for the final month of the season. Second place went to Brian Moar after he beat Iain Wilkie 9-5 however Brian has withdrawn from the league to participate in more athletic pursuits so despite finishing in third position Iain joins Bruce in League 1. At the bottom Ross Donaldson beat Lee MacPherson 9-6 but unfortunately for Ross it wasn't enough to stop him dropping down a league for the first time.

League 3 was closely contested right up until the end. Derek Farmer set the early pace winning three matches with his only loss coming to Michael Muir. Robert Gatt after losing to Derek Farmer won all his remaining games to finish ahead of Derek on game difference. Michael Muir won two and lost two to finish in third but joins Derek and Robert in League 2 due to an Brian Moar's withdrawal. Finishing the month with only one win over Michael Muir means Michael Bain drops down a league next month and is joined by Roy Griffiths despite Roy beating Michael Bain 9-7.

Leigh Shearer cruised through all his games to win League 4 and return to League 3 for the first time since November. In second place was Neil Tait who just edged out Colin Ross 9-8 in their respective game to leave Colin in third place. Both players move up a league and join Leigh in League 3. Dropping down to League 5 are Martin Peace and Susie Bain, Martin winning their match 9-2 to leave Susie at the bottom.

Sean Stanger powered his way to the top of League 5 with maximum points to return to League 4. Also moving up is Craig Moar who despite losing 9-6 to Sean put in a quality month and only conceded three legs in his remaining four matches. Noreen joins the two young hotshots in League 4 next month after winning three of her five matches. Linda Harcus stays in League 5 and Tracy Mathieson and Colin Findlay drop down to League 6, Tracy winning their game 9-3.

In League 6 Grant Harrold pulled out before he had played any games and Paul Davis also withdrew halfway through the month but that apart, everyone else managed to play all their games. Stewart Moar won all four games and alongside Linda Ratter, who won three of her games, they both move up to League 5. Mike Lucas finished in third place followed by Paul Davis and propping the rest of the league up at the bottom Sarah Jane Garrioch.

Fourteen players hit a total of 35 x 180's in March. Michael Moodie was the ton eighty king pin with an excellent six including three against Robbie Stanger. Unfortunately for Michael it didn't stop him from losing to Robbie or being relegated down to League 2 but a good effort nevertheless! Other maximum scorers were Robbie Stanger 4, Craig Moar 4, Derek Farmer 4, Ivan Leslie 3, Stevie Linklater 2, Iain Wilkie 2, Bruce Moar 2, Leigh Shearer 2, Martin Peace 2, Robert Gatt, Davy Cooper, Michael Bain and Sean Stanger.

Seventeen players hit a very impressive 31 ton plus checkouts including 15 in League 1 which, for the second month in a row, beats the previous record of 12 which was set last month. Best of the month came from Ivan Leslie with a 156 in his 9-7 win over Stevie Linklater. Ivan also had a 135, 130, 105 and 104 checkouts to end the month with five. Stevie Linklater also had five with 129, 126, 111, 106 and 103 checks. Others came from Michael Moodie 2 x 110, 100, Ross Donaldson 146, 105, Michael Bain 136, 110, Robert Gatt 125, 102, Bruce Moar 120, 104, Michael Muir 150, Stewart Moar 131, Lee Macpherson 126, Leigh Shearer 121, Iain Wilkie 120, Roy Griffiths 102 and Robbie Stanger, Davy Cooper, Craig Moar and Martin Peace all had 100 checkouts.

The April Leagues are now well underway and all players are reminded that it is up to both players to organise the games. Don’t always leave it to your opponent to contact you and don’t leave it to the last minute to organise your games. Finally all players are reminded to contact (preferably by text or email) the League Organiser with the scores of their games as soon as possible. No notification of the score means no points will be awarded!! Regular updates will be posted on the website http://www.spanglefish.com/orkneydartsassociation/
