Singles League April Report
04 June 2010

Due to ‘summer’ commitments there were a number of withdrawals in April which meant, after a reshuffle of the leagues, there were 52 matches scheduled of which only 46 were played. Once again there were a lot of very close matches with seven ending 9-8 and another seven ending 9-7. Fourteen players scored thirty-five 180’s with Robbie Stanger contributing the most with five including three in his 9-4 win over Iain Wilkie. Martin Peace also scored three in his 9-5 win over Neil Tait. There were twenty-six ton-plus checkouts scored by fourteen players with Bruce Moar recording the most with five including three in his 9-4 win over Lee MacPherson. There were two 12 darters in April with Stevie Linklater scoring the first in his 9-2 win over Leigh Shearer. Leigh grabbed a consolation when he scored the highest out shot of the month with a 139 checkout. Iain Wilkie had the other 12 darter in a close match against Stevie but still ended up losing 9-7. There was only one whitewash in April which was scored by Lee MacPherson when he recorded his first ever in a 9-0 demolition job over Martin Peace.

In League 1 Stevie Linklater won all his matches for the sixth month out of seven to remain the Single League’s top player with Robbie Stanger taking the runner-up spot for the third time this season. Iain Wilkie finished mid table with two wins and two defeats. Leigh Shearer and Brian Moar filled the bottom two places, Leigh winning their respective match 9-8.

Bruce Moar, playing in League 2 for the first time this season, comfortably won all his games to finish top. Davy Cooper, after going down 9-6 to Bruce won his remaining games to finish second. Lee MacPherson started the month on fire with a 9-0 win over Martin Peace but couldn’t keep it up; finishing third with two wins after a close 9-8 win over Neil Tait. Martin beat Neil 9-5 in their match to leave Neil at the bottom.

Michael Bain, playing in League 3 for the first time, put down his mark by winning all his games, including a very impressive 9-1 victory over Ray Butcher to finish top. Ray, Derek Farmer and Robert Gatt all finished the month with two wins and two defeats with Derek taking the runner-up place by virtue of a better leg difference. Robert Gatt took third and Ray fourth. Craig Moar finished bottom narrowly losing all his matches.

After Cammy Scott’s early withdrawal only three matches were played in League 4. Colin Ross played and won all his three matches with his closest match being a 9-7 win over James Flett. Disappointingly James, Neil Twatt and Sean Chalmers didn’t manage to play any of their remaining games.

League 5 was very closely contested all month. Colin Findlay started the month with an impressive 9-3 win over Linda Ratter but he eventually succumbed to the force of Girl Power going down 6-9 to Noreen Bain, 6-9 to Linda Harcus and again 6-9 to Susie Bain. Noreen Bain and Linda Harcus finished with three wins apiece and despite Linda beating Noreen 9-8 in their respective match it was Noreen that finished top on leg difference after Linda lost 9-4 in her last match to Linda Ratter. Susie finished with two wins to take third spot with Colin just pipping Linda Ratter on leg difference to finish fourth.

League 6 was another league that finished with unfulfilled fixtures. Paul Davis did manage to play all his fixtures though and he won them all convincingly to finish top of the league. The only other match played was Stewart Moar’s game with Alex Partner which Stewart won 9-2.

There were 35 x 180’s scored by; Robbie Stanger 5, Bruce Moar 4, Derek Farmer 4, Martin Peace 3, Stevie Linklater 3, Craig Moar 3, Leigh Shearer 2, Iain Wilkie 2, Neil Tait 2, Robert Gatt 2, Brian Moar 2, Ray Butcher, Linda Ratter and Michael Bain.
