Here is a further illustration of how our weather and wildlife are out-of-synch:
This morning feather-light hailstones were falling as I went along the shore to the papershop. Later, when I walked into our front sitting room, I saw a peacock butterfly fluttering against the window curtains. I carefully carried it outdoors and left it on a pink-blossomed branch a Viburnum bodnantense. Sadly, I fear the poor creature won't survive this week's nightime freezing temperatures.
