Garden Diary

11 July 2018Nearly finished

Painting the outside of this old house is a major undertaking. In the early days, Ken and Mackie (using our own scaffolding) painted the chimneys, crowsteps and gable ends themselves. Now, a local scaffolding company erects the scaffolding which enables Mackie to safely paint up to the top of the house. Once one side is completed, they return to move the scaffolding around the corner to the next side. This week, the last side is being painted. When completed, the white lime will be shining and, hopefully, last for many years.

14 May 2018Spring is here!

It has been long in coming, but spring is truly here. The daffodils have faded, the tulips are coming to the end and the rhododendrons are erupting into glorious colour.

The crab apple 'Evereste' is the first of the apple trees to come into bloom. Soon the orchard will be picture of pink and white.
