Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of NEISS?

The purpose of the Norlands Estate Information and Support Service (NEISS) is to give a sense of community to people living in the estate, promote neighbourliness and enhance residents’ enjoyment from living here.   This applies to residents of all ages and parts of the estate.

What does NEISS do to achieve its purpose?

NEISS provides information and connects and supports residents through a range of social activities, events and social media, such as:

  • Giving a warm welcome to new residents from our road stewards;
  • Providing information about the area and about NEISS;
  • Enabling residents to support each other with practical help and information;
  • Connecting residents through social events and activities, the website, NEISS Facebook page and the NEISS WhatsApp group
  • Providing details of contractors used by members, and practical help and support offered by members, such as first aid, shopping and transport, particularly in circumstances such as the coronavirus lockdown;
  • Raising issues of common concern to residents with the appropriate body, e.g. Bromley Council, about matters that directly affect the whole estate on a case by case basis.

NEISS is not a residents’ association and does not give advice or recommendations to members, or raise with external bodies the concerns of individuals/small groups or where there are clear differences of opinion among residents.

Why should I join NEISS?

Membership of NEISS is free and most residents on the estate are members.  Members can participate as much or as little as they wish but it is hoped that they will participate in events in order to fulfil the purpose of NEISS.

By becoming a member you will be informed regularly about all NEISS’s activities and events, receive news bulletins and have access to the NEISS website, Facebook page and WhatsApp group.

NEISS works because a lot of people do a little bit to help.

How do I join?

If you wish to join NEISS, email our Secretary via the contact page, or print out the attached application for membership by clicking here, complete it, and send it to the Secretary.  We will then be in touch.

Who will my information be shared with?

Members’ personal data is stored on the Secretary’s PC and membership records are stored securely.  There is a list of members on the NEISS website which includes only those details which members have agreed can be shared.  The Secretary’s PC and the NEISS website are password-protected.

NEISS has a Privacy Policy which can be found here.

Who organises NEISS?

The work of NEISS is carried out voluntarily by members for residents of the estate.  There is a management committee, but a much larger group of residents help to organise events.  The management committee members are residents who are voted in each year at our Annual General Meeting.

What social events and activities does NEISS organise?

These include:

 Community lunch (every two years)

Open gardens festival (every two years) in aid of the local hospice and open to the public

Halloween children’s event

New Year party

Book club (monthly)

Sitting room talks (about 4 – 6 a year)

Walks (monthly between April and October)

Other occasional events, e.g. wine tastings, film nights
