Spotlight on Fairtrade goods
19 January 2009

MONTROSE FAIRTRADE committee will be handing out leaflets at Somerfield’s Western Road store this weekend to help raise awareness of the benefit of Fairtrade goods.

Members of the committee will visit the supermarket between 10am and noon today.

The Fairtrade movement aims to give producers in third world countries a decent price for their goods.

There will be a table near the entrance to the store showing what Fairtrade products are available.

Meanwhile the town’s Fairtrade movement has been boosted by support from two churches.

Committees of Hillside and Dun Church of Scotland and Knox’s and Ferryden United Free Church have agreed to commit to using Fairtrade tea and coffee after services and at all meetings for which they have responsibility.

They have also promised to use other FT products in future and to support FT events throughout the year.

Montrose will officially be declared a Fairtrade town on February 26.
