WEEK 25 19th March
First off, a word about the lanes. As you all know we had a few misgivings about the Stonehenge pattern. Recently we got together with the chief tech, Mike and he layed out three patterns for us to try. Myself, Steve ferguson and Dave Cooper were invited to try these out and we picked one that we thought would be the best for our league. However, the one chosen meant an adjustment to the amount of oil put down. But it transpired that the machine wouldn't keep this adjustment and kept reverting back. Please don't ask me the ins and outs as I'm not a mechanic. Mike has since sorted the nearest pattern to the one we chose and this was used last week as a trial. This appears to have been successful as we had our best week of the season so far as scoring was concerned. So we will be sticking to this pattern from now on. The pattern - WALL STREET.
Now, as said, it was our best week of the season with 20 x 200 games (6 x 190+ near misses) and 4 x 600 series. The weekly scratch average shot up by 2 pins to 162. There were also 5 seasonal best achievements by different bowlers. Those deuces - Daren Knightsbridge 216/214/205, Trevor Hammond 268/213, Max Slater 245/212, Harley Guy-Sinclair 232/203, Alex Kimpton 222/201, Jeff Campbell 254, Steve Lockwood 234, Layton Palmer 220, Craig Davey 205, Steve Ferguson 204, Bryan Harvey 204, Dean Morgan 202, Brian Johnson and Chris White both with 200. No bowling next week (28th). I'm sorry if some of you may be a bit confused with the schedule. I mistakenly omitted to put the date by half term week which should be 28th May. All subsequent dates should be moved up, ie. week 33 is June 4th and so on, thus making the last league week (38) July 9th.
Charity tournament will be on July 16th. I have 35 entries so far out of 40. Raffle queen will be doing the rounds after your money. We already have 20 donated prizes with more to come. If anybody wants to donate please see myself or Jan. An updated list will be available as the weeks progress.

Memorial Tourament update -- we now have 38 entries out of 40. So if you want to enter you need to be quick. Start of raffle ticket sales went well. The Raffle Queen will be out and about this coming week as usual. Donated prizes - all I can say is that these have 'gone through the roof' . We have an amazing 71 donated prizes so far. We won't need to buy a lot this year, which means more raffle money will go to the charity. Jan will have a full up to date list with her when she is selling the tickets. With the amount and the quality of the donations, I've split these up into 3 catagories. The main raffle table (39 prizes), a pre raffle sales table for anyone to buy specific items (22 items) and finally 8 (possibly 10) items of valuable goods which I'm hoping to auction off to try to raise more money prior to tournament night. These will be posted on the Facebook site with pictures and details. Jan will have details of these items on her 'gift sheet' when selling tickets. Guarenteed a bargain, if you want to put in a bid for something or purchase early from the sales table, let me know. The auction date will close 2nd July.
WEEK 34 11th June
An average week with a few good scores. The weekly scratch average dropped slightly to 161. there were 16 x 200 games and 3 x 6oo series. Straight into those deuces - Brian Mason 213/201/200, Dave Cooper 257/212, Guiseppe Buffa 255/247, Harley Guy-Sinclair 234, Craig Davey 231, Dave Montgomery 226, Darren Grimes 225, Astin Dean 215, Trevor Hammond 214, Layton Palmer 214, Eddie Taylor 213 and Brian Johnson 206. The six sets were by Guiseppe 681, Dave 652and Brian M 614. Well bowled.
Tony Burt Memorial Tournie - We now have a full quota of entries but if anyone still interested let me know as there might be a couple of drop outs and if I do end up with a couple over, I could probably squeeze you in. The raffle is doing well with now 80 donated prizes received and a few more promised still to come. We have also pruchased 6 cases of beer to go with what we've already got. As most of us know Dave Cooper is doing his weekly 'guess what I'm goin to score'. £1 entry. Last weeks winner was Alelaide Buffa who won herself a nice bottle of whiskey. On top of this, we are also sponsering Dave for every game he gets over 200 (after he reaches a total of 50) until the end of the season. Response last week was tremendous with 23 bowlers sponsoring him. I'll be seeing bowlers who weren't here last week to try to increase this number. Many, many thanks for your support.
WEEK 35 18th June
A good week for bowling with the weekly scratch average moving up to 163, thanks to 22 x 200 games, 4 x 600 series and a nice 700 series. Straight to those deuces - Dave Cooper 278/236/201, Jeff Campbell 233/208, trevor Hammond 227/215, Tom Snook 226/202, Steve Ferguson 214/203, Max Slater 207/206, Craig Wood-Ellis 202/200, Alex Kimpton 246, Chris Kibble 227, Craig Davey 226, Layton Palmer 215, leon Burt 214, Dave Montgomery 202 and Chris White200. The six sets were by Tom Snook 622, Jeff Campbell 621, Craig Davey 605 and Chris Kibble 600. The big seven was by Dave Cooper with 715. Well bowled. Now with just three weeks to go, it's a fight for top place with Little & Large and Catch Us If U Can both on the same points and separated by just 827 pins. The fight for third, fourth and fifth is separated by only 8 points and it looks like the push for sixth and final payout spot is again between two teams. But never say never.
The Memorial tournament is now only 4 weeks away and the raffle is going from strength to strength with even more donations coming in. The raffle queen will have the updated list when she comes round selling tickets. The Dave Cooper 200 game sponsership is also doing well. He has been sponsered so far by 35 bowlers. And don't forget he will be doing his 'guess my series' for £1 entry for a small prize with the balance going to the charity. Finally, don't forget to look on our Facebook page for the few top quality items that we are hoping to auction off to try to get even more money in.
WEEK 36 25th June
A reasonable week despite the weekly scratch average dipping to 161. There were still 20 x 200 games but only 2 x 600 series, but we did manage a 700 set. Those deuces Alex Kimpton 252/238/213, Tom Snook 235/222, Craig Davey 230/200, Harley Guy-Sinclair 216/212, Sean Symes 224, Alphonso Palestre 222, Ben Harvey 213, Mark Palmer 206, Brian Johnson 204, Ivan Allem 203, Guiseppe Buffa 203, Caz Oakley 202, Jeff Campbell 202, steve ferguson 202 and Steve Lockwoon 200. The six sets were by Craig 605 and Harley 601 with the seven set belonging to Alex 703. Well bowled everyone. With just 2 weeks to go, the fight for the top two is still ongoing as is for three and four. The rest look pretty straight forward so for these teams it's a question of 'points mean more cash'. At the bottom there could still be a scrap for the dreaded wooden spoon position.
Raffle going well. A few more donated prizes coming in. I've had no bids for any of the auction items to date, so I will try a blind auction on the day in the hope that we can get a bit more money in for the charity. So bring along plenty of cash if you want a real bargain. Photos of the auction prizes are on our Facebook site.
WEEK 37 2nd July
Penultimate week of the season and it was the best of the season with an amazing 27 x 200 games (+ 13 near miss 190's) and 6 x 600 series. The weekly scratch average shooting up to 164. The six sets were by Alex 687, Steve F 649, Jeff 632, Dave 622, Steve L 622 and Chris 619. Well bowled. Don't forget our final week we will be using all 18 lanes as there are no byes. It also looks like we will be using all 18 lanes on tournament night also as we have 45 entries. Raffle still going strong with 6 donations coming in during the past week, including a brand new bowling ball (10lb 2oz). Picture and details are on a post on our Facebook page. On the lanes next Tuesday will be a circular with information for you to look at and take in.
WEEK 38 9th July
The last week of the season week ended up a little bit low key with only 11 x 200 games and 2 x 600 series. But congratulations to Little & Large on securing the League Championship.
