Dies
TO MAKE A DIE WE FIRST NEED AN IMAGE
WE NOW ASK WHAT IS THE DIE TO BE USED ON IN THIS CASE IT WAS TO PYRO EMBOSS IN SOFT LEATHER
With this amount of detail the designs integrity would be lost
IMAGE TRANSFERED BY HAND
The image is now marked out by hand on brass a good material for this type of embossing
THE DIE MACHINED
The die is machine engraved at a depth of 5mm to avoid any back ground contamination
DIE WITH INK IMPRESSION
After machine engraving the die is dressed and hand cut with fine detailing
This was real pleasure to make a steel cutter for the front pieces on this beautiful Harpsichord hand made by Huw Saunders An example of fine detail that on a good day can be achieved by hand and eye
