My name is Cathy Kay, a native of Liverpool now living in Inverness after moving here in 2006 to look after my mother-in-law.  In my twenties I studied fashion design andin my thirties I studied civil engineering and now in my forties I finally found out what I want to do when I grow up.

I studied fashion design because I love clothes and always wanted to make my own.  I did learn to sew but became completely disenfranchised with the fashion industry due to the terribel waste and unethical way clothing is produced.  What I did learn is that I love clothes and hate fashion.

Civil engineering came next as I followed my interests in transport and urban design.....basically the 'bit in-between buildings'.  I specialised in sustainable transport and had a dream job designing cycle routes.  It was all a lot of head banging against brick walls and I never had the stamina for the long haul.  I do pray what I preach though: I don't own a car or drive.

I always knew that when I was 'older' I would find something that I could hopefully turn into a small business and in my late thirties I started buying old plastic dolls on Ebay.  I didn't really do anything with them for a few years but one day I just picked up a doll and decided she would have a new outfit and that's how Lost Dolls came to be.
