I once had a job where I was involved in the development of a landfill site. It was decided that the dump would be turned into a park and my job was to design the network of paths for walking and cycling. I went to visit the dump six months before it was full and it changed my view of 'rubbish' forever. Basically, we dig a hole in the ground and fill it full of unwanted things. They are truly awful. No-one want to live near these things and we don't know what to do with them once they are full. It made me realise that when we say 'I'm throwing it away', there is no 'away'.
So what does a landfill site have to do with dolls? Well, you can't resell old dolls in shops if they do not have the CE safety mark - so even if you think you are doing good by giving old toys to a charity shop, they may not be able to sell them and they could be thrown 'away'. Every Lost Doll sold is one less item in landfill.
Each Lost Doll is provided with a beautiful and unique handmade outfit. She will have underwear, handmade shoes and accessores. She will also be provided with her original clothing in a backpack as a reminder of the unloved condition she was found in as well as booklet showing her before and after pictures and some vital information you need to love your new doll such as her name, favourite food and all her likes and dislikes.
Most of the fabrics used have been recycled from old clothes and although we do our best to pamper and clean our dolls they are often left with scars and marks from before they came to me - their flaws are part of their history and character.
Maybe you have an old doll yourself that would benefit from the 'Lost Doll Treatment'? I can spoil her too and give her a new lease of life and a new outfit - just get in touch!
