Looking For A New Hobby ? Why Not Take Your Pick

by Derek Mercer - 12:02 on 20 February 2022

At Lockkeys Locksmiths Frodsham we spend time honing our skills in lock picking but there are also many people called lock sporters who practice lock picking for a hobby.

So what do you need to get started ? Its not a expensive hobby but you will need a set of lock picks, practice lock and complete some research which is mainly viewing youtube videos as theres plenty of help on there. You could also join a locksport group who will provide hints and tips.

Our Locksmith in Frodsham Derek suggests that you purchase a reasonable set of picks costing approx £30 from a reputable supplier such as UK Bump Keys or UK Lock Sport as when you first start ,ock picking you will not know whether its your skill or the picks that are stopping you from opening the lock.

A clear practice lock will provide you with the knowledge of how a lock works and this will in turn help you to move onto more difficult locks with anti pick pins in them.

Once you get the hang of picking a lock without anit pick pins you could progress onto better locks such as the one pictured above which is a Vier V10. Our Warrington Locksmith Derek explains that this is a good lock to have because you can easily remove and replace the pins duing practice and it has a restricted keyway making it more difficult to get a pick inside the lock. This makes it more challenging.
