Balmacara Playpark to get Facelift

The Community Council have been working hard over the last year to get our play park in Balmacara a much needed facelift. We succeeded in getting the old, tired & broken slide & climbing frame replaced with a new slide and pole spinner which are now in place, and are well used by the kids (and perhaps one or two mums & dads) and look much better.

Following lots of emails and meetings with some very nice gentlemen from the council we have decided as a community council to use our budget to purchase a replacement item for the roundabout which was broken last year and a new picnic table. We have also applied to the Highland Council for some money from their ‘discretionary budget’ to help towards the cost of these items. I am happy to say our application was approved & we have since received this money. The new equipment has been ordered and we are patiently awaiting the installation of these items.

Another item of concern was the fence which is broken & rotten in places and in much need of a lick of paint. We were told that the cost of labour for fencing nowadays is extortionate, so we came up with the idea of approaching the council with a suggestion that if they could supply us with the necessary materials for repairing and painting the fencing surrounding the play park, then we will take on the labour ourselves and with the help of some volunteers carry out the repairs & painting. The council were more than happy with this idea and have been out and measured up the fence and ordered the necessary items & once they have been delivered we will be organising a community fencing day so be ready with your hammers & paintbrushes.
