A SPLASH OF SUMMER COLOUR
05 June 2020

Thanks to generous donations, the support of a local nursery, a surprise package of plants and some hard work, KNC has managed to bring some summer colour to the town beds in Nairn.

KNC members had started the area around the Dolphins at the top of Harbour Street in April as you can see from the story below. Then we discovered that High Life Highland's Bught Nursery in Inverness was growing on a small quantity of bedding ordered by Highland Council but not being planted out anywhere. Bught had decided to offer them to community groups and charities. So using Nairn's Community bus, we were able to go & collect some to plant up the whole of the bed.

KNC members finished the area around the dolphins

and with more of the Bught plants we were also able to plant up the other half of the bed, but in a more formal bedding style.

In May we were delighted to be awarded some funds from Nairn's Discretionary Budget, and we received generous donations from the public. With this we have been able to support our local nursery, Greens. Donald Green has supplied us with plants for the HFBC raised bed next to the dolphins

and next week he will deliver more bedding for the Brambles bed beside Rosebank.

We have also planted up the barrels and pole tops in Castle Square and the three raised beds opposite Nairn Old Parish Church.

Our members and volunteers will look after the beds over the summer and our new sponsors, the McGowans brothers from Auldearn will water everything as needed.

KNC is grateful to all those who have made this happen and hope that both residents and visitors will be out and about in Nairn over the summer to enjoy this splash of colour.
