Briefing paper for Explore members
A new way of working for JCLLC and Explore
Those who came to the AGM will remember that Directors of JCLLC have been thinking about how to improve the way we work. We have now agreed on new working arrangements which we hope will help achieve our objectives to;
- attract new Explore members and keep our existing ones
- communicate effectively both internally and externally
- enable members to participate actively in the organisation
We plan to set up, as soon as possible, three Development Teams reporting to the Board, as follows.
1.Membership Development
This team will be led jointly by Louise Freeman and Christine Burridge, and its brief will be to attract new members into Explore. This will include all aspects of market research, market planning and development, publicity and external communications.
2.Members’ Services
This team will be led jointly by Joy Rutter and Jack Pennie, and its brief will be to take care of existing Explore members. This will include internal communication with and between members, volunteering in JCLLC, and making recommendations for improving member retention.
3.Programme Development
This team is already active, led jointly by Colm O’Brien and Bronwen Calvert. Its brief is to create and deliver the Explore lifelong learning programme for members, and to develop third-party collaborations.
These teams will work within a strategic framework agreed by the Board, and will replace current structures. Within each team, task groups will be set up for specific pieces of work, both long and short term. Cross-communication between the three teams will happen at Board level, but will also be ensured by cross-membership, by using the Explore Office as a central resource and repository of information and by ensuring that all groups share information with the Explore Manager.
In addition, Dorothy Stainsby will convene a working group reporting to the Board, to review the status of JCLLC as a CIC, in particular considering the benefits of charitable status, and working towards a fundraising strategy.
We hope that Explore members will start to give some thought to how they might contribute to these Development Groups, as we will soon be asking for expressions of interest, and hope to get them up and running soon.
