I'm not sure where the year is careering away to. But after much planning and waiting on Sunday we were able to go and collect a very special starter flock of Bororays. We will be guardians of these very special sheep.. and look forward to seeing Gwen, Agnes and Coda have early summer lambs next year by Bollocks (breed name Romeo) who is from an unrelated blood line, and incase you wished to know maybe his breeder shouldnt have let the grandchildren name him!!!. Pictures to follow.. in due course we will phase out one of our other two micro flocks..
For now our pure Jacob flock has just come back onto our holding from rented land.. so this week will include checking all the lambs feet and ear tags prior to listing some of them in the Rare Breeds stock sale 'south' in September.. but also preparing Trip' and her boy lambs, and maybe some of my Balwen x BorderLiecester girls for the islands agricultural show. Last year was the first ever time I'd shown livestock.. so now I have to put into practice the lessons learnt.
I have been able to label up and put much of our precious yarn for sale in a couple of local shops. Wild Heather Craft shop on Hoy, A Yarn in Kirkwall and the Craft shop on SHapinsay. Washed and Carded fleece is on sale in For Arts Sake in Kirkwall and also in the Craft shop in Shapinsay. I have some still to list on here, but have been neverous to post it as I am not good at checking online daily and dont wish to keep people waiting or miss enquiries... this I will overcome shortly ;-) I have kept back the 10 skeins of browny grey lambswool Jacob DK for sale on here.. as it is just delicious.
