Stunning wintery high pressure

We are thoroughly enjoying being 'stuck' under a high pressure.. last night we had a touch of our 4th frost this winter and a crisp starry cloudless night. Today there was barely a ripple in the bay and the little loch that both border our land.

It is lovely to see both our wee flocks enjoying their haylage in the wintery sunshine. We are very thankful for a friend/ neighbouring farmer who came and shifted our first two haylage bales into feeders for us at the weekend.

At the community Christmas tree Lighting (on friday evening) both our daughters enjoyed playing with the island bellringing group. While I was thrilled to find someone with spare straw (most folks on the island were unable to harvest all their barley so feed and straw is at a premium this year). I promptly agreed to buy a winters stock in one go (while it is available). I had already taken delivery of almost 1 ton of dried barley from Hays, Birsay. So I am ready for whatever the next few months throw at us. I am also aiming to break even this year so having bulk deliverys will help me keep an eye on feed/straw costs.

I love our little flocks where each ewe has a name and a distinct personality. I can't even take sunset pictures without Casear bringing the Border Leicester cross flock to see what I was up to ;-).
