Natural harvests
In the right season, the hedgerows are thick with fruits, most of which can be safely eaten (beware dust, farmers' sprays, visiting dogs). The harvest offers:
- raspberries
- gooseberries (a truly amazing number of wild gooseberries)
- apples (eating and crab - some well-established trees are in 'wild' territory)
- blackberries (few in number, except for some favoured areas, well known to the locals)
Other plants in the area which can be harvested include:
- ramsons (wild garlic - you certainly know when you are amongst this wonderful plant)
- sweet cicely (another unmistakable herb with its sweet aniseed fragrance)
- hazel nuts
- mushrooms (be very sure you know what you are doing here)
- wild 'greens' such as nettle tops and garlic mustard
