CARBON

Every time the sea covers the marsh, it deposits a sprinkling of fine, organic particles which, over time, become incorporated into the marsh, anchored in and "fixed" by the mat of plant roots. Every year, plants on the rest of the ungrazed reserve grow new leaves and flowers which eventually die, the carbon in them getting locked into the soil by a myriad of invertebrates inclduing earthworms.

You can definitely say that the reserve is extracting carbon dioxide from the air and helping the fight against climate change.
