Hand-dyed...

Christine Croft's hand-dyed shades are irresistible, echoing the colours of the Cumbrian countryside.  Still pure Herdwick, but more subtly than the obvious shades of grey, they are definitely ADDITIONAL ties to have in your collection, not the flagship items.

BE WARNED, though: these colours change between natural daylight, artificial light, evening....

Also be aware that they are very individual: each tie is pretty much unique and may or may not ever be available again.  Chris has a lot of fun with her rug wool and is always experimenting - which makes it much more fun for us.

AMETHYST
AMETHYST
One of our first coloured ties, a glorious shade of gemstone amethyst
FOREST
FOREST
Our very first coloured tie, a very pleasing darkish green...
DARK BLUE
DARK BLUE
A sophisticated dark tie for creating a certain impression.... deep and unfathomable.
FOXY - SOLD!
FOXY - SOLD!
A vibrant foxy shade, with the natural colour of the underlying wool causing it to take on a subtle stripy effect
HILL GRASS
HILL GRASS
Another shade of green, almost grey at times. The colour of windswept grass on the hill...
MYRTLE
MYRTLE
In electric light this is brown; in daylight it is almost pink. A tie of great mystery...
SPHAGNUM
SPHAGNUM
A really good, feisty green - serious and strong
TRUE BLUE - SOLD!
TRUE BLUE - SOLD!
At the time this was on the needles, our own Rory Stewart was bidding to become leader of the Conservative party. If only he had won, we might have sent him this one. Maybe next time...
BRACKEN
BRACKEN
A rich, reddish, chestnutty brown.... Strong, warm, reassuring.
BORROWDALE YEW
BORROWDALE YEW
A really dark green, deep and calm. Very hard to do justice to the colour in a photograph, even using filters.
DAMSON
DAMSON
Big-hearted, with a deep, dark sweetness.
MOSS supertwist
MOSS supertwist
This is the first of the supertwist ties. We've called this one MOSS - cool and unfathomable. The supertwist yarn has an even crisper finish than the rug wool.
AQUA
AQUA
A tie of a glorious aquamarine: cool with sparkling depths
LICHEN
LICHEN
Latest off the press, the 'yellow' wool we saw died. Reminiscent of the yellow lichen clinging to lakeland rocks: stubborn and determined!

Remember we said the colours change according to the light?  Have a look at these two pictures:

This is camera flash, bright and vivid and vibrant.... ... and this is natural lighting, subtle and beautifully shaded.

The ties look good in both lights, but definitely having different moods.  Quite fascinating!
