GLR survives winter intact (more or less)
29 March 2011

This week's relatively benign weather has allowed a start to be made on pre-opening maintenance. No major problems have been found (yet) and the main job has been with a paintbrush, restoring the timber decking to a darkish brown. How i wish that we could still use creosote. I have a couple of bits of wood still looking good that were probably last treated in 1995.

This season's other main track job is to replace the decking on the Hundred Foot Bridge with more realistic timber baulks.

Over the winter the line has acquired two WD style box vans and an ex W&L flat wagon from the late Roland Gill's line in Ayrshire.  The box vans need new buffer/couplings which will be bought at Stoneleigh along with a major new item of stock for the GLR.
