POWER IN THE UNION
POWER IN THE UNION Fortrose produced a display of power and pace to defeat a very strong Mid Lairg side to win the Fowler Cup on Friday night. The match finished 2-2 after extra time and Fortrose held their nerve to win the resulting penalty shootout by 4 to 3 with keeper Michael Kerr once again the hero. Iain MacKay gave Fortrose a first half lead but the Union were pegged back after half time and the scores remained level at full time. Mid Lairg took the lead in the first half of extra time but Fortrose would not be beaten and quickly equalised through Kenneth Whyte's sublime header. The game went to penalties and Kerr made two crucial saves to enable Fortrose to claim the cup and boost confidence ahead of the Highland Amateur Cup final next weekend.
