Trout lake update

Conditions are becoming more favourable for trout fishing,  as Bob reported a new stocking of 250 Bibury rainbow's went in on the 7th September,  these fish are starting to get caught and appear to be clean fit and well.

Marginal weed is still a problem,  so extra care releasing fish is needed as shocked fish will just sit in the weed. Trout that have been fighting can get weed around the gills leading to suffocation if left.

The water level is down a bit at the moment,  this is done intentionally to expose margins which kills future egg strings left by argulus (fish lice).  The level will be returned to normal once I decide the argulus have diminished.  A good early frost would help.

Any way back to the fishing,  Paul Francis fished the lake yesterday and caught 4 nice rainbow's on a sedge pupae and dry sedge dropper.  The trout were chasing the dry fly!

I reckon a good bet would be a small muddler drawn across the top on a floating line,  especially if there is a little wind.  Orange buzzers and blobs should work well also.  Most fish can be found around the sunken island.

Cheers Peter
