Red Mark Syndrome Important Information

Some of our trout stock have developed some red sores on their skin. This is a common problem at trout farms and only affects a small percentage of fish.

Should an angler catch a trout with red sores on, please kill the fish and hand to staff as the fishery will be  reimbursed by the fish supplier.  Any affected fish caught will not be counted as part of your bag limit.

Please do not put affected fish back into the lake, even on catch and release, as handling fish will make the problem worse. It is best to remove the fish completely.

We are working with both the Environment Agency and Bibury Trout Farm as to why this problem occurs in rainbow trout.

More information and guidelines are available on the EA website under RMS (Red Mark Syndrome). Click on the link below, then click on the entry with "Title" as its title. This will open up a pdf file with all the information on RMS.

The water quality at the fishery has been checked by the EA, and has passed as good quality, and is not the cause of the problem.
