COMMUNITY WOODLAND
Douglas West
The Community Woodland at Douglas West was created in the early nineties from the old mine site of Douglas Castle colliery .The site was purchased from Douglas and Angus estates by Strathclyde Regional Council and a plan formed for a new community woodland from this former industrial site. The first phase of removing the southern spoil tip and demolishing the derilict buildings remaining on site was completed by the mid ninties. Central Scotland forest trust then secured Forestry Commission Scotland grant funding to establish this community asset.
