week 1
Upon arrival in Cromarty, the vibrancy of colours in the building materials was very striking. A walk along the high-tide line, revealed a wealth of colours in the natural stones, and the man-made brick, pottery fragments: deep burgundy reds, pinks and oranges and gentle mustard yellows, dense blacks, white stripes and an entire spectrum of greys. Not to mention the 'tumult' glass in its range of transparency from clear to frosted white.
It was my intention to work with these natural colours, but that has not yet unfolded. I did discover an outcrop of redstone which i collected to use as a pigment, but it sits alongside my Hopeman sandstone powder, "ready to go"!
