How it all started...To begin this creativity journey we visited the school to meet the Headteacher and some of the children and have a look at the area of which the music trail would be implemented.
These pictures show the picturesque grounds at Compton and Up Marden school, this is the area of which the music will be fitted.
Following this, we met as a group to research music trails, discuss possible ideas for ours, as well as developing some initial ideas for fund raising and finding recycled materials. We then presented a whole school assembly to introduce ourselves to the children and introduce the idea of designing and implementing a music trail into their grounds. From this we discussed our ideas for the trail and gathered some further ideas from the children. Including the type of instruments they would want integrated into the music trail and what they wanted it to look like.
What the children thought... Here is a summary of the children's ideas: What is a music trail? - looking at different bands - playing music really loud - making a school band
What would you like in your music trail? Ideas included; flute and similar intruments that you blow into, a guitar or string like instrument, bongos, cymbals, piano, xylophone, a rainmaker. From this we concluded that the children preferred to have a range of instruments including percussion, wind and string and they wanted it to be really big and were in agreement that the outdoors would be an appropriate location for it.
The children were really enthusiastic about the project and knew exactly what they wanted from the music trail. We incorporated these ideas into our design.
