Reserves put an end to promotion tussle
02 May 2009

With 7 staright wins from their last severn league matches Bramham swept into the runners up spot by ending the hopes of  Brafferton Rangers at Helperby.

Going into the match the equation was a simple one for Bramham and Brafferton, both sides needed to win to fight off the challenge from Poole and Kirkby Malzeard and gain automatic promotion along with champions Wetherby who had clinched the title on the previous weekend.

Early goals from Jacklyn and McCargo had the visitors well on their way to the second division after just 25 minutes and a third from Hurrell semed to put the game well beyond the homeside. Bramham were never able to finally nail the match down as chances for the elusive fourth goal came and went.

With Bramham coasting, they let  Rangers back into the game with two goals in quick succession and Brafferton with tails up were right back in the promotion race as Bramham had a rocky 20  minutes and only good work from Maltby in the Bramham goal and some dogged defending kept the homeside at bay.

With just four defeats all season Bramham were'nt about to capitulate and the band of supporters who had made the trip north saw Roberts and Wild see the vistors comfortably home as they ran out 5 - 2 winners.

A very solid performance, typically of much of Bramhams season, a season in which they kicked off with just 8 players, a season when they turned seeming defeat into points and never knew when they were beaten.

Well done lads and congratualtions on one of the most deserved promotions. It has been a pleasure and a privilage to work alongside  you all!

Rich
