Thirsk A 4 Bramham Reserves 1
19 October 2008

Reserves beaten for first time

Bramham had long considered this one of their most difficult trips of the campaign, principely in the knowledge that Thirsks 1st X1 were without a fixture.

A glance at the Thirsk outfit as they prepared for the match confirmed that the visitors would be in for a tough afternoon, with the prolific first team striker Les Williams putting the home side though their paces.

The Thirsk side seemed unusually strong for a third string and with Williams as their talisman they started sharply playing downhill with a strong wind at their backs.

A clever back heal by Williams set up their first goal on 12 minutes and there was a real danger that Bramham could have been out of this game well before the break. Bramham steadied the ship a nd played on the counter with Hurrell, Easby and Jones all being denied by the keeper or the woodwork, so despite Thirsk dominance, Bramham could easily have turned around in front.

As the 2nd half commenced, the sun came out the wind dropped and the driving rain dissapeared to make life considerably easier for the home side.

Jimmy Hurrell playing as a lone striker once again turned in a spirited display, holding the ball up well as he awaited support and it was no suprise when Hurrell brought Bramham level after 55 minutes with a 30 yard drive which the hapless keeper could only wave at as it sailed into the top corner.

Thirsk continued to carry the game to Bramham however with Wiliams at the centre of al theier play setting up a further goal to add to two of his own as the home side ran out worthy winners.

We hope they will be able to field the same team every week!
