Match Reports Claro

Squirrel 7 Bramham 3   10-02-08

Bramham were awful. Squirrel scored 9 goals, 2 were in their own net. Rich Milner scored ‘our’ only goal.

Enough said!

Vale of York 0 Bramham 5    03-02-08

Away wins for Bramham in this league are rare and back to back wins even more rare, but on this display it was easy to see why Vale of York are rock bottom of this league

Bramham were 2 goals up within 8 minutes, Robinson scrambling the ball over the line, then a 30  yard rocket from Carrier seemed to have blown Vale away.

Unaccustomed to taking leads, let alone early leads Bramham were a confused bunch for most of the remainder of the half, They stopped playing resorted to petty challenges and time and again fell foul of the referees whistle as did Vale and the game became ragged and the half time whistle couldn't come soon enough.

In the second half Bramham regained the quality of the opening few minutes of the match, they played some of their best football of the season and ran out worthy winners with Cannon, Jones and Tosh Maltby making the points safe

The Maltby goal was a collectors item as he pounced on the ball 8 yards out and sent a wicked drive low into the corner beyond the despairing keeper .

It was not however quite as spectacular as the never to be forgotten own goal which  gave Hampsthwaite the points in November( sorry about that Tosh!!)

A mention for Rich Milner. A great performqnce in the middle of the park. Chased everything down and had a hand in several of the goals. Top Man on the day Well done Rich

Bramham V Bishop Monkton 27-01-08

After 8 leagues games without a win Bramham at last managed to claim 3 points.

The result does not reflect the game in the slightest. Monkton dominated the play from start to finish missing chance after chance.

In the first half Firth and Carrier did go close but couldn’t force the keeping into making a save. Elliot in goal for Bramham also had very little to do as for all the chances the opposition created they could not actually hit the target.

As the game entered the closing period Cannon did find the back of the net but the referee waved play on judging the ball not to have crossed the line. Bramham felt the decision should have gone in their favour so when Linyard fired home through a crowded penalty area justice did prevail.

Bishop Monkton were very unlucky to lose this game and should at least have claimed a point. There were still some very good displays from the home side though, Sanderson in particular was excellent as was Milner and Cannon. Lets hope we can build on this result and restore some confidence back in the team.

One last thing…as the game finished one fan was overheard saying “this Bishop Monkton side couldn’t hit a barn door with a shovel” thankfully he was right…

Bramham V Harlow Hill 25-11-07

Another week another disappointing turn out. Bramham yet again could not field 11 players at kick off. The home side had to wait 10 minutes before they could finally get a full team on to the pitch. By this time Harlow Hill were already one goal to the good. Bramham couldn’t clear their lines and from a corner Harlow forced the ball home.

From then on the away team were under relentless pressure from a resolute Bramham side. Robinson brought Bramham back level with a wonderful half volley into the top corner. 5 minutes later Robinson was on the score sheet again as he danced past 2 defenders to give the home side a well deserved lead.

After half time Bramham defended tremendously, it was backs to the wall as Harlow pushed forward looking for the equaliser. Tasker in goal made sure Bramhams slender advantage stayed in tact. Harlow were starting to play the long ball in desperation but the Bramham defence stood firm.

In the last 5 minutes Linyard should have made sure the points went to Bramham. Robinson put him through, he took on the shot first time but as it shaved the post Harlow knew they still had chance to salvage something. Another long ball forward to the Harlow attacker, he somehow fumbled the ball home from 5 yards. This was a bitter disappointment after such a good performance from the home side. 2-2 the final score.

Bramham V Killinghall 18-11-07

Bramham welcomed Killinghall to Freely lane on a very wet and cold Sunday morning. Both teams were quick out the blocks looking for the early break through. Bramham probably created the better chances in the first half with Firth and Milner going close. As the first half progressed Killinghall started to make a few chances. The ball was played down the right for the opposing striker to simply stroke the ball home but somehow missed the target when it looked easier to score.

As the second half began Killinghall managed to break the deadlock. There was nothing Robinson in goal could do as their striker ran onto a through ball and fired home. Against the wind and one nil down Bramham knew they would be up against it. The home side did create some more chances but were unable to convert. Jones hit the post and Maltby looked to have scored from a header until the ball hit Firth, which allowed Killinghall to clear their lines.

As Bramham pushed forward Killinghall managed to break away but Robinson was equal to everything Killinghall had to offer. Bramham did not have any luck in front of goal, every ball that became loose in the box fell to the feet of the away side. Surely it is only a matter of time before Bramham get back to winning ways.

ClaroBeagle V Bramham 11-11-07

On a predictably windy Stray Bramham were up against a side who had only lost one league game all season. Bramham welcomed back Tasker in goal and C Maltby at centre half. Following the norm these days Bramham found themselves 2 goals down within the first 20 minutes. The football was very scrappy in the difficult conditions but Bramham were starting to play the ball around. After 30 minutes the Bart man hit a shot from fully 40 yards into the roof the net giving the Clarobeagle keeper no chance.

As Bramham pushed for an equaliser Clarobeagle beat the offside trap and fired home to make the score 3-1. This was a wake up call and after some great play by Milner he squared the ball for Rocko to fire a shot in off the post to make the score 3-2.

After the break Bramham had the wind behind them as they pushed forward looking for at least a point. On the hour a great move down the left was finished off by Bongo to make the score level at 3-3. Both teams had chances in the final minutes to win the game but neither could make the break through. A draw was probably a fair result.

Bramham V Hampswaite 04-11-07

Bramham started this game in confident mood despite not winning on a Sunday since early September. Midway through the first half the home side were amazed to find themselves 2 down. This was completely against the run of play.

As Bramham started to create more chances Firth was up-ended in the box, the referee had no choice but to point to the spot. Firth converted the penalty, 1-2. Hampswaite then scored again on the break to make the score 1-3. They were also awarded a penalty just before halftime but Carrier, making his debut in goal was equal to the shot diving to his left and pushing the ball to safety. Great save.

Bramham started the second half on top, Easby swung over a corner and there was Firth to fire home from 6 yards to make the score 2-3. Another goal from Hampswaite to make it 2-4 could have signalled the end for Bramham but they kept battling. Cannon scored a fine volley from 15 yards and Firth completed his hat trick with his second penalty of the match.

With the score tied at 4-4 and 5 minutes to go this game could have gone either way. Unfortunately with the luck Bramham Football Club is having at the moment it inevitably went to the opposition,Tosh Maltby with the OWN GOAL! This was a fantastic performance from everybody concerned. The new formation worked very well and despite losing we can take a lot of confidence from this game.

Firth was awarded man of the match despite scaring everyone to death after his 3rd goal, by lifting up his shirt to fully justify his nickname ‘Chubby’.

Harlow Hill V Bramham 07-10-07

Bramham travelled to Killinghall Moor to take on a team one place below them in the league. The away side started very brightly with lots of early pressure. After 10 minutes Linyard released Dowson down the right whose angled shot from a tight angle found its way past the keeper. 10 minutes later Bramham were 2 nil up. Easby swung over a corner kick from the right, the Harlow defence tried to clear their lines but only managed to set up Linyard. He struck an unstoppable left foot volley from 18 yards into the roof of the net.

All things were going well for Bramham, even the sun was shining, which on Killinghall moor is unheard of. Then disaster, the referee suddenly decided he wanted to be the centre of attention. Bramham conceded 4 goals in the next 15 minutes. From this point Bramham did not get a single decision. 3 more goals in the 2nd half from Harlow – game over!

If there was ever a game that Bramham did not deserve to lose then this was it. In patches we played some very good football it’s just a shame that the standard of refereeing had to be questioned. Bramham will look to bounce back to winning ways next week where they will play at home for the first time since early September.

Bishop Monkton V Bramham 23-09-07

Bramham travelled all the way to Bishop Monkton to a face a team with no points and no goals from their previous 3 games. After 10 minutes the away side were one nil down after a strike by what only can be described as a wonder goal. Their left back hit it from 40 yards into the roof of the net. 5 minutes later Bramham were 2 down as a break in concentration allowed Monkton to double their lead.

Bramham knew they had enough quality to pull this game around. On 30 minutes Linyard raced on to a through ball from Jones and lobbed the keeper to get Bramham up and running. From here on in it was continuous pressure from the away side. Milner squared the ball across the 6 yard box on 35 minutes and there was the same player who had earlier scored the goal of his life to slice past his own keeper. 2-2 at half time.

After the restart Bramham were soon 2-3 up. Milner charged into the 18 yard box and calmly slotted the ball under the advancing keeper. 5 minutes later Linyard scored again, two strikes from the Bramham midfield and a further own goal made the score 2-7. Bishop Monkton were awarded a late penalty which they converted to make the score at the final whistle 3-7.

This was a fantastic display from all involved. The Bramham Barmy Army goes marching on…….

Hambleton Res V Bramham

Bramham were knocked out of the Barkston Ash cup in the 1st Round by a less than average Hambleton side. The game started brightly enough for Bramham when Dowson scored a great individual goal. He cut in from the right, went past 2 defenders then fired home from 15 yards. Bramham should have built on this early lead but after 2 debateable refereeing decisions found themselves 2-1 down at half time.

2 minutes into the second half Elliot swung in a free kick from the left and there was Firth to nod home to make the score 2-2. Back on level terms and playing downhill with a strong wind behind them the onus really was on Bramham to take control of this game. Unfortunately this did not materialise as Hambleton upped their game to score 4 more goals without reply.

This was a poor display after such a good result 7 days earlier. If this team is to be successful we really need the support of everybody. Bramham football club has a large array of quality footballers but on this occasion we only managed to travel with 11. This is simply not good enough. Many thanks to the players who did turn up, lets try and encourage a few more to follow suit next week
