2014 TENBY, PEMBROKESHIRE
Travel to Tenby
For those travelling to Tenby over the Severn Bridge, the toll is £6.40 and is only taken in one direction, that is going into Wales.
There is a very pleasant pub stop for lunch or dinner, called the Rose and Crown in the village of Heol y Capel, Nottage near Porthcawl (CF36 3ST), a mere 10 minutes off the M4.
Parking in Tenby
There is limited parking at the rear of the Giltar hotel on a first come basis. Some street parking is also available around the hotel front and back streets. Falling that, there is a large car park located a few minutes walking distance from the hotel at a cost of £3 per day or part day.
Thursday (8th May)
Food is available until 8:30pm, however a later meal may be available by contacting the Giltar hotel directly. Local pubs and restaurants are walking distance from the hotel in the town centre.
Friday (9th May)
Breakfast at the hotel is from 8am to 10am.
For non-golfers, a walking option will be available and there are also plenty of activities and sites to see in the area. See Jim's earlier e-mail for golf details and alternative activity links.
The evening meal options at the Giltar hotel are the same as Thursday evening.
Saturday (10th May)
Breakfast at the hotel is again from 8am to 10am, however there will be a photo shoot at 9:45am opposite the hotel by the 'talking telescope'.
At 10am we need to depart Tenby for Broadhaven Beach (map reference SR976938), the start point for the walk. Parking at Broadhaven Beach is free to National Trust members and £5 a day for non-members.
Binoculars and cameras a must!
We aim to begin walking between 10:30am and 10:45am at the latest. The morning section of the route will take about 2 and a half hours and take in fantastic views of the coast, suitable for all abilities.
Lunch has been arranged at the Stackpole Inn from 1pm and the menu will be available nearer the time, so watch this space. Dogs are welcome in the side bar that is large enough for all of us and also in the garden area outside.
The afternoon section of the route is shorter and delightful. A mere 1 and a half hours through woodland and an inland lake taking us back to where we started in the morning. An extended route is also available for those feeling energetic and seeking a longer walk. Again, the afternoon walk is suitable for all abilities and is an experience not to miss.
The total walk is 6 miles and an overview of the route can be seen here shortly. Anyome wishing to follow the route in detail should acquire OS Explorer Map OL36.
The Giltar hotel lounge bar is available to us for pre-dinner drinks and dinner is scheduled for 7:30pm. Dinner comprises of three courses and coffee, tea for a cost of £23.95 per person, choices detailed in Jim's e-mail.
Please submit your selection to Jim by 19th April. The hotel will add the meal charge and drinks to individual room tabs. For those not staying at the Giltar, please settle your bill on the evening.
Sunday (11th May)
Breakfast at the hotel is from 8am to 10am.
