Championship Show 2009
17 October 2009

Well, it can only be said that it was a beautiful day.   Everyone was treated to a spectacular journey to the Victoria Halls in Selkirk with early morning sun hitting the frost on the ground and all the autumnal colours of the trees.   There was a happy atmosphere and lots of chat and catching up.   It was heartening to see that hounds and handlers appeared to be enjoying their day and the judge, Colin Whittock (Whitline), who was awarding CC’s for the first time, certainly put them through their paces.   No classes for couch potatoes here!   All hounds looked really fit and fairly “flew” around the ring with what seemed little effort.   It was lovely to watch healthy hounds in top form.

A different arrangement was tried for lunches this time, with (most) exhibitors paying in advance and a few spare lunches available to purchase on the day.  That way we could assess better how much food we would require, the result being that we were able to reduce the cost to exhibitors considerably and there was a lot less waste.   Our caterer was one of our committee, Jim Wilson together with his partner, David Johnstone, both professional caterers, and they really did us proud.  It was no surprise that the handlers didn’t seem to be just as athletic around the ring after lunch!
Top winners were:- BCC and BiS Debbie Newman’s Woferlow Sanchia, who has been out of the ring for a while but making her return in great style.  DCC and BoS was Sandra Thexton and Margaret Martin’s Barrenger Beswick JW ShCM gaining his second CC.   RBCC and  RBiS  was Newman’s Woferlow Tooty Frooties.   RDCC went to Phil Freer’s Switherland Royal Edition.  BPiS went to Thexton and Martin’s Barrenger Swanhild.   Best Veteran, Tommy and Sandra Johnston’s Burnvale Going Around.  Best Breeder in Breed, Debbie Newman (Woferlow).  Best Dog Resident in Scotland Jennifer Jeffrey’s Andershill Nickelback.  Best Bitch Resident in Scotland Derek and Aileen Sharpe’s Bullieburn Lodestar.   It is obvious that the Woferlows and Barrengers went home with a reasonable amount of tartan ribbon at the end of another successful show.
