Pipe smoking country dwelling nature loving broadcaster...

Hargreaves that is! If you doubt that I am, in a very real sense, a follower of Jack Hargreaves, I offer you this picture of me smoking my pipe in a woodland setting.

Also, today, 26th of April, the housemartins came back to The Old Grammarye. Last year they didn’t arrive till the tenth of May. If I was them, I’d come back early too. Who wouldn’t want to spend spring in Radnorshire?

Then, tonight, I spotted a YouTube playlist of much of my radio stuff, a list which was curated (dread word) by Julian Dicken, aka Jules Moonshake, illustrator of One Fine Day. This is as part of his project to archive material from the Lancaster Music Co-Op.

Jules is working on cover ideas for The Breaking Wave. I am working to finish the writing. Sometimes, I am very tired, like today, and progress is slow. But, at least there is progress.

Writing the Breaking Wave is free today. But if you enjoyed this post, you can tell Writing the Breaking Wave that their writing is valuable by pledging a future subscription. You won't be charged unless they enable payments.

We Look at the World to See the Earth

by Ed Roberson

“a return         begets return     gets returned:

the rivers come back, the salmon”

What can we know of Earth, this magnificent being we honor each spring, when our experience of Her is so limited? In this poem, Ed Roberson brings us into a space of humility and reflection before Earth’s ancient mystery. Glimpsing Her vastness, we are reminded that we, as part of the Earth, embody Her smallness and fleetingness—“a small fern in a crevice of the cliff face.”
