Grain Weevils...... Grain Earth House….

Grain Weevils......

As Mike’s strimming the meadow and a lot of the seed-bearing plants are gone, we decided to start putting out grain for the birds again.

At the beginning of the Summer we tied up what was left of last year’s sack……Sunday morning we opened it …..to find….Weevils!

Loads of Grain Weevils!

There must have been eggs, or a pregnant female, or a few adults in the sack and they’ve been breeding, and feeding, away to their heart’s content.

Looking into the sack, you can see the surface of the grain moving gently as they burrow about in it.

As long as they don’t eat the house, (Sci-fi film scenario running through my head)  I don’t mind them being there.

They’ll go out with the grain, and probably get eaten by the birds too.

PS

Sunday night…I dreamt that the walls of my den were crawling with Weevils…..which spelt out the word…….HELLO……
