A Word of Warning……..
I was contacted by someone who claimed to be a well-known author, who had seen something I posted on the Historical Fiction Club site…

……..and expressed an interest in my writing. We started a Messenger exchange, but the tone of what he wrote didn’t ‘ring true’.
He very quickly asked me to send him the manuscript of my book – I’m not writing a book.
I became suspicious and contacted the Agent of the real author, who confirmed that it came from a fake site, was probably 'written' by a Bot, and asked me to report it.
I was wondering why someone would do this and it occurred to me that, somewhere along the line there would have been a request for money to facilitate publication of my writing.
I successfully deleted and blocked the Bogus Bot, then thought I’d mention it as a warning that this kind of scam is happening.
This situation reminded me of ‘Blade Runner’ where the Authorities have a set of questions which they use to detect Replicants. As the Replicant increasingly struggles with the questions, the answers become less and less relevant.
That’s exactly what happened in the exchange I had – the responses became less and less real/more and more confused and I thought either he had something wrong with him, or he wasn’t a person at all.
